Regenerative agriculture programme in France delivers results

Building on strong results in France, we are expanding our corn programme

Maisadour

At Tate & Lyle, we are scaling our focus on regenerative agriculture in Europe after our programme for corn in France in 2025 delivered a higher reduction in emissions than both the annual and multi-year regional benchmarks. With the model now in place, we are expanding the programme in 2026.

We are expanding our regenerative agriculture programme for corn in Europe to improve farm resilience, support soil health and reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions. Developed with Regrow Ag, the agriculture resilience platform, and three French cooperatives and farming partners - Armbruster Grande Cultures, Euralis Groupe Coopératif and Groupe Coopératif Maïsadour - the programme spans key sourcing regions in the northeast and southwest of France.

Early results show emissions reductions

France was prioritised because it is a key corn procurement area for Tate & Lyle and the region has faced drought in recent years, creating a strong case for building resilience to climate change. In 2025, we enrolled 1,800 hectares in the programme in partnership with Regrow, and emissions from the enrolled hectares were 19% lower than the regional average for the year.

“When we founded this programme with Regrow, our goal was to create a practical way to support farmers, build resilience and reduce emissions,” explains Anna Pierce, Director of Sustainability, Tate & Lyle. “The results from France show that the approach is working and has the potential to scale.”

How the programme works on the farm

Our programme focuses on supporting farmers’ conservation tillage, cover crops and nitrogen management. Adoption data demonstrates progress is being made, with conservation tillage reaching 82% in 2025 and cover cropping nearly doubling to 32% from the 2019 baseline. With agronomic support from Regrow and the cooperatives and representative groups, participating farmers select practices suited to their land and track implementation and outcomes through Regrow’s platform.

Supporting supply chain resilience

For us, the programme is about more than sustainability claims. As a major corn buyer we see regenerative agriculture as critical to building a more resilient, lower-carbon supply chain while supporting farmers and that is why we are expanding our programme in 2026.

“This programme is helping us build a stronger, more resilient supply chain for Tate & Lyle and our customers,” explains Jérôme Béra, Tate & Lyle’s President Europe, Middle East and Africa. “By scaling regenerative agriculture, we can provide lower-carbon ingredients to our customers while strengthening long-term supply security.”

How customers benefit

This programme not only helps build resilience and support decarbonisation, but it also supports our customers directly.

All customers buying Tate & Lyle’s corn-based ingredients already benefit from us maintaining acres equivalent to the volume of corn we buy annually in our regenerative agriculture programmes across France and the US. Customers receive Scope 3 carbon emissions data through product carbon footprints for the corn-based ingredients they purchase to support their environmental reporting.

Customers who procure Tate & Lyle’s corn-based ingredients originating from our French corn suppliers and initially processed at our facility in the Netherlands, now have the opportunity to accelerate their positive impact on the environment. How? By becoming a partner in our regenerative agriculture programme in France, customers can report the impact of greater and faster decarbonisation in their own Scope 3 emissions reporting, helping them to meet their emissions reduction goals sooner.
