Derived from citrus peels, a by-product of the juice industry, GENU® Pectin is an excellent gelling agent that thickens, brings viscosity and stabilizes a variety of food and beverage products. Our pectin is derived from citrus peels, a by-product of the juice industry. We designed every part of our pectin process to focus on circularity. We utilize renewable energy sources like biogas, biomass and hydroelectric power in our operations; water from processing is recycled as fertigation for local agricultural farms. Finally, the leftover citrus peel is turned into animal feed or renewable biogas. We give back to nature what it has given to us.
We’ve been committed to sustainable seaweed sourcing for carrageenan for decades. In Zanzibar in the 1990s, we built supply chain transparency programs, supported sustainable aquaculture practices and invested in local infrastructure. Since then, around 25,000 people have joined our seaweed farming supply chain, 85% of them women. Our Zanzibar partner, ZANEA Seaweed Company, now holds B Corp Certification.
