London, UK, 20 August 2026: Tate & Lyle PLC (‘Tate & Lyle’), a global leader in ingredient solutions for healthier food and beverages, has set an ambitious new target to fill consumer’s daily ‘fibre gap’ by delivering an additional 15g of fibre per day to people’s diets, 35 billion times by 2030. This fibre fortification goal has been added to Tate & Lyle’s 2030 purpose targets.
The recommended global intake of fibre is around 30g each day. However, the average global daily adult intake falls well short of this by approximately 15g per day, known as the ‘fibre gap’. This means most people could feel real benefits from increasing their fibre intake to recommended levels. This is important since a low fibre intake can disrupt digestive health and comfort.
Research shows that consumption of prebiotic fibres positively impacts growth of beneficial gut bacteria leading to a variety of health benefits including the body’s ability to absorb minerals, overall bone health, cognitive health and glycaemic control. As a global leader in soluble fibres, with a NutraStrong™ prebiotic verified portfolio, Tate & Lyle is well-positioned to help improve health for consumers around the world by adding fibre to everyday food and beverages. This makes closing the fibre gap a sustainable, healthy habit.
Between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2026, Tate & Lyle helped to improve consumer nutrition by providing 18.3 billion ‘daily fibre gap equivalent’ servings of 15g of fibre in food and beverages. Its target is to reach 35 billion ‘daily fibre gap equivalent’ servings by 31 March 2030.
This new fibre fortification goal has been added to Tate & Lyle’s long-term purpose targets which measure how Tate & Lyle is living its purpose of Transforming Lives through the Science of Food through the three pillars of: Supporting Healthy Living; Building Thriving Communities; and Caring for our Planet. These purpose targets, originally set over a five-year period to 2025, have been extended to cover a ten-year period from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2030. Strong progress is already being made. For example, over the six years ended 31 March 2026, Tate & Lyle has:
Removed 12 million tonnes of sugar from people’s diets through its low- and no-calorie sweeteners, equivalent to 48 trillion calories (2030 target is removing 20 million tonnes of sugar).
Provided 5 million nutritious meals for people in need through partnerships with food banks and other charitable partners (2030 target is providing 7 million meals).
In the year ended 31 March 2026, Tate & Lyle also beneficially used 98% of the waste it generated either as nutrients for local farms, in energy recovery or by recycling (2030 target is 100%).
Rowan Adams, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Tate & Lyle, said:
"Our purpose is at the heart of our business. It helps us navigate an uncertain and constantly changing world, and address some of society’s major challenges. By adding a new fibre fortification goal, we are recognising the important role that fibre plays in improving people’s diets and overall health. We are committed to delivering on this new target, and our other purpose targets by 2030.”
