With this change, we became a focused speciality food and beverage ingredients provider dedicated to making food and drink healthier and tastier so that we can deliver our purpose of <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/purpose">Transforming Lives through the Science of Food</a>.</p> <h4>An evolving ingredient portfolio</h4> <p>To extend our leading ingredients portfolio, we acquired a prebiotic dietary fibre business in China, <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-completes-acquisition-dietary-fibre-business-china">Quantum Hi-Tech</a>, making Tate &amp; Lyle the leading provider of soluble dietary fibre in the world. We also acquired <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-acquires-nutriati-developer-and-producer-plant-based-protein">Nutriati</a>, a North American chickpea ingredient company specialising in chickpea protein and flour, to meet the demands of the growing market for plant-based products. Expanding our leading sugar reduction solutions portfolio further, we added <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-expands-sweetener-portfolio-erytesse-erythritol">ERYTESSE® Erythritol</a>, a sweetener with 70% sweetness of sucrose (table sugar) but with none of its calories.</p> <h4>Science-driven partnerships</h4> <div alt="Lab workers from Lubeck " data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="9616bcbb-1558-43bb-b278-58ed49789fda" data-langcode="en" title="Lab workers from Lubeck tile" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/Lab-workers-from-Lubeck-tile.jpg" alt="Lab workers from Lubeck " title="Lab workers from Lubeck tile" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>We’re not just producers, we’re pioneers of ingredient technology. In the year to 31 March ‘22, we created 30+ new stevia-based sweetener solutions and launched 10 new products from our innovation pipeline. We have also continued to strengthen partnerships with leading research bodies worldwide in 2022. With APC Microbiome Ireland, for instance, we have been increasing understanding of how dietary fibres impact the functioning of the gut microbiome, the community of bacteria in our bodies that aid digestion, destroys harmful bacteria, and helps control our immune system, alongside other roles. Our synbiotic (a combination of prebiotics and probiotics) <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-and-apc-microbiome-ireland-announce-publication-joint-intellectual-property-new">fibre technology</a> that we have jointly developed, is showing positive preliminary results in supporting heart health and many other metabolic benefits. It’s an exciting development and just one in a host of active research projects to support healthy living.</p> <h4>Sharing knowledge and expertise</h4> <div alt="Dubai lab colleague" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="94315cb9-2ddd-4f28-9089-e0fe71235510" data-langcode="en" title="Dubai lab colleague" class="align-left embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/Dubai-colleague.jpg" alt="Dubai lab colleague" title="Dubai lab colleague" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>Our support for science extends well beyond the laboratory. We believe that knowledge is power and through our education and outreach programmes, we are connecting our experts with the wider world to improve public health. For instance, our sugar and calorie reduction programme in the UAE welcomed more than 390 food and drink manufacturers, academics and government officials, and was a first for the region. For consumers and health professionals, we developed a new tool – <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/fibre-calculator">our Fibre Calculator</a> – to help build awareness of the fibre gap, the many benefits of fibre, and ways to increase fibre in the diet, developed with the British Nutrition Foundation.</p> <h4>Responsible production and sourcing</h4> <p>While supporting healthier diets may be our main contribution to solving the world’s challenges, ensuring we operate in a responsible way with minimal environmental impact is crucial. In 2022, Tate &amp; Lyle committed to be <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/purpose/caring-our-planet/carbon-footprint">carbon net zero by 2050</a>. To achieve this goal, we’re continuing to drive efficiencies in our own operations and have made a new commitment to purchase 100% renewable energy by 2030. Still, with Scope 3 or value chain emissions making up the largest portion of our carbon footprint, we are focused on developing our <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/purpose/sustainable-agriculture">sustainable corn and stevia agriculture programmes</a>. In China, with Earthwatch Europe, this year we have helped more stevia growers in Dongtai, East China, and Linze, West China, to operate more sustainably benefiting their own operations and their communities.</p> <h4>Providing nourishment for neighbours in need</h4> <div alt="Two smiling Chinese school children eating lunch" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="97de4de3-2e11-4bbb-8841-976b35dbe403" data-langcode="en" title="Two smiling Chinese school children eating lunch" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/China-schools-1.jpg" alt="Two smiling Chinese school children eating lunch" title="Two smiling Chinese school children eating lunch" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>This year, we have been able to get out into our communities more easily, and our people have grasped the opportunity to provide meals, support education and wellness programmes, and generally provide a helping hand where it’s most needed. Our people in Łódz, Poland and Boleráz, Slovakia helped refugees from the conflict in Ukraine and our colleagues worldwide helped raise £125,000 in a donation matching scheme. We’ve renewed our school breakfast and education programme with <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-supports-school-breakfast-and-learning-programme-illinois">Enders Salk school in Chicago</a>, now in its sixth year, and in Mexico we’ve established a new <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-supports-sustainable-growing-practices-mexico">partnership with Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos</a>, a charity, to support vulnerable children with <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/giving-back-support-children-mexico-better-future">food cultivation, nutrition education and mentorships</a>. In China, our ‘<a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/extending-our-children-health-improvement-programme-china">Healthy Eating, Happy Learning’ programme</a> continues, with 2,000 children to benefit from healthy snacks, nutrition education support and kitchen equipment.</p> <h4>Creating a work environment where people thrive</h4> <p>For us, building thriving communities is about both supporting our neighbours and supporting our people. In our business, we continue to take steps to provide more flexible and family friendly ways of working, such as our <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-introduces-new-global-equal-parental-leave-policy">new global equal parental leave policy</a>, which gives all employees a minimum of 16 weeks full-paid parental leave. We’ve also made good strides towards our commitment to reach gender parity in leadership and management roles, with women holding 42% of these positions. And in senior leadership, we’re even closer. We’re proud that 45% of our Board and 56% of our Executive Committee are women, having welcomed <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/dawn-allen-appointed-chief-financial-officer-tate-lyle-plc">Dawn Allen</a> and <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-appoints-tamsin-vine-chief-human-resources-officer">Tamsin Vine</a> this year in the roles of Chief Finance Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer, respectively.</p> <p>Driving equity, diversity and inclusion in our business will continue to be a priority into 2023 and beyond as we work to ensure employees feel seen, heard, and valued, and our teams reflect the local communities we serve.</p> <p><em><strong>These are just some of the highlights in another purpose-led year at Tate &amp; Lyle. And how does the gender balance of that board influence the business’s trajectory?</p> <h3>Welcoming our newest Board member</h3> <p>As <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/board-changes-announcement-march-2022">Isabelle Esser</a>, Danone Chief Research, Innovation &amp; Food Quality Safety Officer, flew into London last month for her first meeting with fellow Board members, as the latest business leader to join this group, she explained what drew her to Tate &amp; Lyle and her views on the importance of gender parity in leadership.</p> <p>“I’m really excited to meet my new Board colleagues in person, having only met virtually until now,” Isabelle explained. “This is my first board appointment and I’m looking forward to bringing my experience of research and innovation, which I lead at Danone, but also playing a broader role in helping to shape the strategy and the future direction of Tate &amp; Lyle.”</p> <h3>Transforming Lives through the Science of Food</h3> <p>Like many of our newest recruits, Isabelle was attracted by Tate &amp; Lyle’s purpose and our opportunity to help solve some of society’s greatest challenges. “The company’s values are completely in line with my own,” she continued. “Tate &amp; Lyle’s purpose is very similar to that of Danone’s and, with its focus on ‘the science of food’, it is right up my street! As a global company, I believe Tate &amp; Lyle can make a hugely positive impact on everyday life in communities all around the world. That’s why I’m here.”</p> <h3>How to drive progress on gender parity</h3> <p>Isabelle has over thirty years’ experience in global consumer food and ingredient companies, including more than twenty-five years with Unilever PLC, where she played an active role in driving progress in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). “I’ve been Involved in EDI since 2000 and it’s something that is very important and close to my heart,” Isabelle explained. “From my experience at Unilever and in other companies, I know that representation in leadership can only be achieved through targeted interventions. That means looking for things like recruitment bias and subtle discriminations as well as assessing performance and promotion criteria, so we can identify the root causes and establish the right targeted interventions to meet our goals.”</p> <h3>Gender representation in our leadership</h3> <p>At Tate &amp; Lyle today, 45% of our Board and 56% of our Executive Committee are women. Across the business, 42% of Tate &amp; Lyle’s top 500 managers are women, and we are working to achieve gender parity in leadership and management roles by 2025. “I’m pleased to join a board, and work with an Executive Committee, that clearly recognises that diversity of perspective is how you innovate, how you disrupt the market, and how you grab opportunities. Across the wider business community, we’ve made good progress but it’s fragile and we need to maintain our focus otherwise we risk losing a lot of the advances we have made. I’m looking forward to seeing how I can work with my new Board colleagues and the wider workforce to continue to drive EDI progress at Tate &amp; Lyle.”</p> <hr /><div alt="EDI colleagues" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="article_small_312_x_169" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="d79b546f-d7b5-4382-9ee4-49f62af9bec2" data-langcode="en" title="EDI colleagues" class="align-left embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/styles/article_small_312_x_169/public/EDI-PR.jpg?itok=38Y7FCih" width="312" height="169" alt="EDI colleagues" title="EDI colleagues" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p> </p> <h4><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/about-us/equity-diversity-inclusion">Learn about EDI at Tate &amp; Lyle</a></h4> <p> </p> <p><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/about-us/equity-diversity-inclusion/targets-and-commitments"><u>Discover our EDI targets and commitments</u></a></p> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/board" hreflang="en">Board</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/diversity" hreflang="en">Diversity</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-size field--type-list-integer field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image size</div> <div class="field--item">Medium</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-spacing field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">News image spacing</div> <div class="field--item">All sides 10</div> </div> Fri, 05 Aug 2022 15:52:27 +0000 mattwagg 17326 at https://www.tateandlyle.com Environment, health and safety: maintaining momentum in a transformational year https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/environment-health-and-safety-maintaining-momentum-transformational-year <span>Environment, health and safety: maintaining momentum in a transformational year</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/82496" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">mattwagg</span></span> <span>Tue, 06/21/2022 - 18:25</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field--item"><time datetime="2022-06-21T12:00:00Z">21 Jun 2022</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p><strong><em>Learn how our people continued to run our plants safely and efficiently, and keep our customers served in this excerpt from our Annual Report 2022.</em> </strong></p> <p><strong>Covid-19 continued to challenge us this year, requiring huge efforts from our people to continue to run our plants safely and efficiently, and keep our customers served.</strong></p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/company-stories" hreflang="en">Company Stories</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-story-description field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-hidden field--item"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--wysiwyg-and-block-reference paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="field field--name-field-in-wysiwyg2 field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field--item"><div alt="Environment, Health and Safety" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="5b3d29d0-4732-4737-a4b5-bb03ce209bda" data-langcode="en" title="Environment, Health and Safety" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/Global-Operations-opt.jpg" alt="Environment, Health and Safety" title="Environment, Health and Safety" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>This was another year of progress, despite many challenges such as the global pandemic, supply chain disruption and high customer demand. While keeping customers front of mind, we didn’t forget our focus on the everyday, ongoing safety of our people and processes, and our longer-term goals for environmental sustainability. We are pleased with the progress we made on our environmental targets and commitments, particularly exiting coal in our operations four years ahead of schedule; and that we continued to do well on process safety, thanks to the team’s efforts around combustible dust and chemical management.</p> <h3>CONTINUING TO MANAGE THROUGH THE PANDEMIC</h3> <p>When the pandemic started in 2020, we established local response teams who were empowered to make decisions on the ground, depending on local circumstances, under the overall guidance of our Global Pandemic Response Team. In this second year of the pandemic, our site leaders continued to rise to the challenge, dealing with new issues that arose, not least the toll on people’s mental health from the ongoing state of uncertainty, and increasing levels of frustration. With the pandemic an ongoing daily reality, our people’s resilience and commitment to help each other this year was all the more commendable.</p> <p>We were really helped in our management of Covid-19 by the global, standardised structure of our Journey to Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Excellence (J2EE) programme, which has been in place since January 2018. In 2020, we adapted this programme to integrate food safety and product quality processes, and the work we do on site security. The programme is designed to involve everyone within Tate &amp; Lyle in strengthening our EHS culture and performance, and this paid off during the pandemic. Our cloud-based reporting tool, Gensuite, was important here, since we were able to adapt it quickly to record infections, quarantines and vaccinations, meaning we had data early on. And because our people were already used to sharing ideas and reporting concerns through Gensuite, it was natural to use it for managing Covid-19 issues as well.</p> <h3>BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES FOR J2EE</h3> <p>In practical terms, J2EE involves each site introducing standardised protocols and passing through a series of stages, or tollgates (seven in total), with the help of colleagues who champion a particular aspect of EHS culture (element owners).</p> <p>Passing a tollgate involves a rigorous assessment carried out by internal EHS experts. We were really pleased with the ongoing progress despite the pandemic – by the end of March 2022, two sites had passed tollgate 1, six sites tollgate 2, eight sites tollgate 3, 16 sites tollgate 4 and two sites tollgate 5. And we were particularly proud that our McIntosh, Alabama, US site was the first to pass tollgate 6. We also encourage employees to tell us about any EHS concerns they may have, no matter how large or small. This year, they raised 5,720 concerns, and we were pleased that 75% were addressed within our target of 30 days, up from 73% in 2021.</p> <p>Nonetheless, Covid-19 brought some challenges for the programme, because ultimately good performance is about culture, which is much easier to maintain when people are together face-to-face. Not only could we not send out our global engineers to sites, but the sites themselves had to operate with fewer people at a time, and in more socially-distanced ways. However, with travel increasingly back on the agenda, and more people allowed on-site, we expect progress to pick up again in the coming year.</p> <h3>A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE</h3> <p>Talking of the coming year, J2EE was a strong basis for the launch of Primient as a standalone company, and it remains central to both Tate &amp; Lyle and Primient. Over the years we’ve operated the programme, we have adapted and expanded it with experience and ideas from people across the business, while always holding on to its key principles.</p> <p>This makes it an excellent tool for integrating new plants and sites, as we’ve seen with our acquisitions in the last two years. Our commitment to J2EE, and to meeting our 2030 environmental targets, remains stronger than ever.</p> <div alt="Footer for Annual Report 2022" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="9c7cf9ea-50ed-488e-a01c-e44bec5653b6" data-langcode="en" title="Footer for Annual Report 2022" class="embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/AR-footer.jpg" alt="Footer for Annual Report 2022" title="Footer for Annual Report 2022" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <h4><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/sites/default/files/2022-06/tl-annual-report-pdf-22kb.pdf#page=54">Read more about our work in Environment, Health and Safety on pages 52-62 of our Annual Report 2022.</a></h4> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/diversity" hreflang="en">Diversity</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/environment" hreflang="en">Environment</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/safety" hreflang="en">Safety</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/workplace" hreflang="en">Workplace</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-size field--type-list-integer field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image size</div> <div class="field--item">Medium</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-spacing field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">News image spacing</div> <div class="field--item">All sides 10</div> </div> Tue, 21 Jun 2022 18:25:44 +0000 mattwagg 17266 at https://www.tateandlyle.com Respect, visibility and allyship: Celebrating 50 years of Pride https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/respect-visibility-and-allyship-celebrating-50-years-pride <span>Respect, visibility and allyship: Celebrating 50 years of Pride</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/82496" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">mattwagg</span></span> <span>Tue, 06/14/2022 - 16:05</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field--item"><time datetime="2022-06-14T12:00:00Z">14 Jun 2022</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><h3>Creating a culture where employees feel seen, heard and valued doesn’t happen overnight.</h3> <div alt="Tate &amp; Lyle pride logo" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="9a92e48d-8d42-420f-bf51-ec408d1281ab" data-langcode="en" title="Tate &amp; Lyle pride logo" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/TL-PRIDE.jpg" alt="Tate &amp; Lyle pride logo" title="Tate &amp; Lyle pride logo" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>We want our employees to feel empowered to shape the conversation and environment around issues close to their hearts that affect their daily lives, which is why active Employee Resource Groups (ERG), such as our LGBTQ+ group, are so vital in an inclusive business. I share this because I am convinced that responsibly making diversity visible will make a better place for those who come after me, giving them many of the opportunities that I did not have.”</em></p> <h4><strong>Tammy Reinhart, Global Marketing Leader in Sycamore, Illinois, and LGBTQ+ NOAM Regional Chapter Lead for Tate &amp; Lyle’s ERG Leadership Team:</strong></h4> <p><em>“The mission of our group is to create a positive and safe environment for teammates of the Tate &amp; Lyle LGBTQ+ community across the globe and there is no better time than Pride Month to draw attention to this. The fundamental belief that no one should be treated differently for any reason holds such strong meaning for me. Like many people, I have been witness to unfair treatment and bias affecting friends and family members and sadly I was not always brave enough to speak up in the moment. </em></p> <p><em>“To be a true ally, I know I must act! I am work in progress and while I consider myself an ally for the LGBTQ+ community, I also know self-education is essential. Equally, as a mother of two young children, I want our boys to understand every friend and every family is unique and we should appreciate the differences and diversity and treat everyone equally with respect. It starts with pride in yourself and fostering conscious inclusion for everyone – regardless of whether it’s in the playground, in the workplace or the great big world we live in!” </em></p> <h4><strong>Roman Murgas, Director Sales, NOAM, and a global lead for the LGBTQ+ ERG, added:</strong></h4> <p><em>“People in the LGBTQ+ community have been and are still fighting for respect and often basic rights. Even now, 50 years since the first Pride event took place, there are still countries where people get jailed, beaten or even murdered simply because of who they are. For this reason, the community, and the allies that support us, need an event, an occasion to celebrate a long journey we’ve been on, to remember all those who suffered and died for our cause, and those who suffer still. As in previous year’s, the month of Pride at Tate &amp; Lyle culminates in a global virtual event, which brings colleagues from every region, team and level of seniority together to celebrate the differences that make us all unique, and allow for experience and history sharing, access to external speakers, as well as light-hearted activities and celebration! By growing our confidence and competence through training and conversations in safe spaces, we believe we can create sustainable change for a more inclusive, equitable workplace and world."</em></p> <p>Senior leaders must set the tone and create safe spaces away from the bustle of day-to-day work for people to connect, share, challenge and learn. It was in that spirit that, in April this year, we made a commitment that by 2025, employees, managers and leadership will spend 10, 15 and 20 hours each respectively on equity, diversity, and inclusion training. </p> <p><strong>For more information on what Equity, Diversity and Inclusion means to us at Tate &amp; Lyle, visit: <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/about-us/equity-diversity-inclusion">Equity, Diversity &amp; Inclusion | Tate &amp; Lyle</a> </strong></p> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/diversity" hreflang="en">Diversity</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/workplace" hreflang="en">Workplace</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-size field--type-list-integer field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image size</div> <div class="field--item">Medium</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-spacing field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">News image spacing</div> <div class="field--item">All sides 10</div> </div> Tue, 14 Jun 2022 16:05:41 +0000 mattwagg 17226 at https://www.tateandlyle.com Tate & Lyle introduces new global Equal Parental Leave policy https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-introduces-new-global-equal-parental-leave-policy <span>Tate &amp; Lyle introduces new global Equal Parental Leave policy</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/82496" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">mattwagg</span></span> <span>Wed, 04/13/2022 - 08:41</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field--item"><time datetime="2022-04-13T12:00:00Z">13 Apr 2022</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p><strong>London, UK, 13 April 2022:</strong> Tate &amp; Lyle PLC (Tate &amp; Lyle), a leading global provider of food and beverage ingredients and solutions, is pleased to announce a new Equal Parental Leave Policy which will provide employees across the world with a minimum of 16 weeks full-paid parental leave covering birth, adoption, foster to adopt and surrogacy.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/press-releases" hreflang="en">Press Releases</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-story-description field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-hidden field--item"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--wysiwyg-and-block-reference paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="field field--name-field-in-wysiwyg2 field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field--item"><div alt="Equal Parental Leave Policy" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="cfe0fe8b-d132-493a-84f6-808e3f4b3353" data-langcode="en" title="Equal Parental Leave Policy" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/Equal-Parental-Leave-Policy_0.jpg" alt="Equal Parental Leave Policy" title="Equal Parental Leave Policy" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>The new policy, which is currently being rolled out globally, applies to both birthing and non-birthing parents regardless of gender, marital status or sexual orientation, and allows employees to take parental leave any time within the first 12 months of a child[1] entering the home.</p> <p><strong>Laura Hagan, Chief Human Resources Officer at Tate &amp; Lyle, commented:</strong><br /> “Government guidance on parental leave differs considerably by country and many colleagues have told us that, in some countries, the time provided simply isn’t enough. When I was very young, I actually wanted to be a policewoman! When I was at high school, I really enjoyed science and home economics and I was lucky that my school let us do work experience. I worked in a dietetic unit of a local hospital where they look at how diet and nutrition affects out health. I then worked at a food manufacturer where they make different foods and that’s when I decided that food manufacturing was the best option for me. I would encourage school pupils and college students to take up the offer of a work placement, as it really helped me decide what to do.</p> <h4>What is the best thing about your job, and the hardest thing?</h4> <p>The best thing is when I get to help our customers succeed in their projects and also seeing new products that I’ve helped create appear in the shops. Sometimes we don’t get much notice when a customer has a new project they want to work on, so we have to act fast to help them, especially as they need time to test their products before they can be sold in the supermarkets. It can be very stressful but I enjoy the challenge!</p> <h4>Where do you go for help with your work?</h4> <p>I’m part of a European team, but I also work with colleagues across the world in different departments. They are all very helpful and we support each other.</p> <h4>What skills have you learnt in your job that are useful in real life?</h4> <p>Baking different products is of course useful, as I also like to bake at home. But it's also much more than that. Communication skills is a good example, whether it’s telephone conversations, face to face conversations, emails etc. I’m in contact with many people across the globe as part of my job and that skill becomes useful in everyday life too.</p> <h4>Did you have role models when you were growing up and do you have one now?</h4> <p>My greatest female role model has been, and still is my mother. She has always encouraged and supported me. Growing up, she was running a house, studying and also working. Sometimes I would join her at work in the evening or during the school holidays. She showed me from a young age the importance of being independent and that women can have a career. It also helped gave me some valuable work skills from a very young age. She even sacrificed her Saturdays to drive me to and from long shifts working on a food production line when I was 16-17.</p> <h4>What would you say to a young person considering a career in your area of work?</h4> <p>I would encourage young people to gain experience. If you decide something isn't right for you, that’s fine, don’t panic, because many skills can be used in other jobs and it’s also important to gain life skills and independence. Work hard and respect each job you do, as you never know where it may take you on your career path!</p> <div alt="Amy Jackson quote" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="4a53b2f2-3de1-405f-b999-5399bd2d42f6" data-langcode="en" title="Amy Jackson quote" class="align-left embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/Amy.jpg" alt="Amy Jackson quote" title="Amy Jackson quote" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <hr /><h3><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/international-day-women-and-girls-science-2022-legacy">Read more from our women in science around the world here</a></h3> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/diversity" hreflang="en">Diversity</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/workplace" hreflang="en">Workplace</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-size field--type-list-integer field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image size</div> <div class="field--item">Medium</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-spacing field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">News image spacing</div> <div class="field--item">All sides 10</div> </div> Mon, 14 Feb 2022 10:57:14 +0000 mattwagg 16971 at https://www.tateandlyle.com Tate & Lyle unveils new targets for equity, diversity and inclusion https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/tate-lyle-unveils-new-targets-equity-diversity-and-inclusion <span>Tate &amp; Lyle unveils new targets for equity, diversity and inclusion</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/82496" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">mattwagg</span></span> <span>Thu, 12/02/2021 - 16:52</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field--item"><time datetime="2021-12-06T12:00:00Z">06 Dec 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p><strong>09 December 2021 – </strong>Tate &amp; Lyle PLC (Tate &amp; Lyle), a leading global provider of food and beverage solutions and ingredients, announces today a set of ambitious targets and commitments to significantly progress its new equity, diversity and inclusion strategy over the next ten years.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/press-releases" hreflang="en">Press Releases</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-story-description field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-hidden field--item"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--wysiwyg-and-block-reference paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="field field--name-field-in-wysiwyg2 field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field--item"><div alt="Equity Diversity and Inclusion" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="d79b546f-d7b5-4382-9ee4-49f62af9bec2" data-langcode="en" title="Equity Diversity and Inclusion" class="align-right embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/EDI-PR.jpg" alt="Equity Diversity and Inclusion" title="Equity Diversity and Inclusion" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <p>This new strategy is designed to fully integrate equity, diversity and inclusion into Tate &amp; Lyle’s culture and purpose. It should then become a natural part of our day-to-day operations – from customer conversations, communications and imagery used, to HR policies and IT accessibility.”</p> <p>Lauren has a strong track record of leading and delivering transformational change across a range of sectors including technology, travel and financial services. She is also founder of a Micro-Fund in Ghana and a member of a steering committee of a consortium for pay equity.</p> <hr /><h4>Related articles:</h4> <p><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/how-can-women-change-face-ag">How can women change the face of agriculture?</a></p> <p><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/amazing-deeds-spirit-and-performance-all-our-people">Laura Hagan, our Chief Human Resources Officer, shines a spotlight on ED&amp;I in our latest Annual Report</a></p> <p><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/equity-diversity-inclusion-driving-inclusive-change">How our progress on equity, diversity and inclusion over the last year was marked by accelerated impact</a></p> <p><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/in-remembrance-george-floyd-committing-to-change">How we are taking actionable steps toward tackling racial inequity</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Tags</div> <div class="field--items"> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/diversity" hreflang="en">Diversity</a></div> <div class="field--item"><a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/category/workplace" hreflang="en">Workplace</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-image-size field--type-list-integer field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Image size</div> <div class="field--item">Medium</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-spacing field--type-list-string field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">News image spacing</div> <div class="field--item">All sides 10</div> </div> Mon, 04 Oct 2021 09:33:59 +0000 mattwagg 16536 at https://www.tateandlyle.com How can women change the face of Ag? https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/how-can-women-change-face-ag <span>How can women change the face of Ag?</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/82496" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">mattwagg</span></span> <span>Wed, 09/29/2021 - 09:32</span> <div class="field field--name-field-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field--item"><time datetime="2021-09-29T12:00:00Z">29 Sep 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p><strong>We recently had the pleasure of joining a Women Changing the Face of Agriculture 2022 Conference planning meeting. Through this more personal connection, our volunteers are helping to share advice and real-world perspectives in one-to-one or small group sessions. And we’re pleased to share that while we’re coaching students, we’re learning just as much about ourselves and <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/news/celebrating-2000-mentees-ready-for-work">how we can be even better, more effective partners</a> in ensuring belonging, inclusion and equity.</p> <p><strong>Lauren von Stackelberg, our Chief Equity Diversity &amp; Inclusion Officer</strong> highlights, “<em>Personal connection is at the heart of all meaningful change. The relationships we forge listening to, learning from, mentoring and engaging with our local communities will help us to collectively create a more equitable world and future</em>.”</p> <h3>Supporting success in the field towards a more sustainable future</h3> <p>In addition to supporting women and students as they pursue further education and career planning in agriculture, we’re particularly excited about the power and potential of supporting women across our agricultural supply chain - starting in the field.</p> <p>In our new Sustainable Stevia pilot programme in partnership with Earthwatch Europe and supported by Nanjing Agricultural University, we are helping local farmers in the Dongtai region of China develop and adopt sustainable growing practices - many of whom are women.</p> <p><strong>Anna Pierce, our Director of Sustainability</strong> notes, “<em>The growers participating in our stevia pilot are from small, family run farms, many of which are owned by women. The program’s goal is to minimise the environmental impact within our supply chain while improving the livelihoods of our suppliers.</em>”</p> <div alt="Classroom of delegates at Women Changing the Face of Agriculture" data-embed-button="tal_embed" data-entity-embed-display="media_image" data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="7832665c-a2b5-4456-aa9a-531445f95429" data-langcode="en" title="Classroom of delegates at Women Changing the Face of Agriculture" class="align-left embedded-entity"> <img src="/sites/default/files/WCFA22-tile2.jpg" alt="Classroom of delegates at Women Changing the Face of Agriculture" title="Classroom of delegates at Women Changing the Face of Agriculture" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /></div> <h3>Room to grow</h3> <p>We believe women can help change the face of agriculture, and we believe that Tate &amp; Lyle – and our broader industry – have an important role to play in accelerating gender diversity in agriculture. We realise we have much room to grow in helping to develop access and diversity within our industry and beyond. That’s why we are committed to bringing positive and impactful change for the future – planting the seed of change, growing stronger together.</p> <p>Tate &amp; Lyle has committed to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and prioritised Gender Equality as a goal where we believe we have a significant opportunity to have an impact. While we continue to prioritise gender equality within Tate &amp; Lyle, we are also working in our supply chain and with local communities to amplify our impact.</p> <h4>To learn more about our Purpose and our commitments, please visit <a href="https://www.tateandlyle.com/purpose"> our Purpose page</a></h4> <p><em>*Photographs taken from a WCFA meeting pre-Covid-19</em></p> <hr /><h3>WCFA</h3> <ul><li>Illinois Agri-Women (IAW) started The Women Changing the Face of Agriculture conference as an investment in the future of agriculture.</li> <li>This outreach project gives women the opportunity to explore different career paths offered in the agriculture sector.</li> <li>The goal is to help attendees receive accurate information firsthand from actual women agriculture professionals.
