From supporting food technology students in developing countries to celebrating the discovery of sucralose 40 years ago, here are six extraordinary achievements from across Tate & Lyle’s business in 2016.
We celebrated removing 77 trillion calories from consumers’ diets globally
Since Tate & Lyle discovered sucralose 40 years ago, the amount of SPLENDA® Sucralose produced by Tate & Lyle has been enough to replace over 19 million tonnes of sugar in the human diet. That is the equivalent of removing 77 trillion calories from consumers’ diets globally.
SPLENDA® Sucralose, the Tate & Lyle brand name for sucralose, is a versatile no-calorie, high quality sweetener which is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar. SPLENDA® Sucralose has had particular success in ice cream, beverages, confectionery, sports drinks and pharmaceutical products.

Capacity at the Kimstad facility has now increased more than tenfold since it was acquired by Tate & Lyle in 2013.
Tate & Lyle uses a unique patented manufacturing process at the facility, transforming locally produced Swedish oats into ingredients that form part of our speciality food ingredients range. PromOat® Beta Glucan and PrOatein® Oat Protein can be used in a variety of food and beverage products including breakfast cereals, smoothies, baked goods, bars and sports shakes, while Avenacare® Oat Beta Glucan is specially formulated for use in personal care products.
