Innovation is an integral part of the way we do business at Tate & Lyle, and remains essential for our future success. We have a strong team dedicated to developing the innovative products, technologies and processes that give us a real competitive edge.
But innovation doesn’t just happen inside the business; we also rely on external partnerships. Our Open Innovation team seeks out universities, research institutions and small businesses to work on new ingredients and technologies that are close to commercial launch but need some more development work to bring them successfully to market.
Innovation is an integral part of the way we do business at Tate & Lyle
In 2011, we entered into a licence agreement with Eminate, a subsidiary of the University of Nottingham, to develop SODA-LO® Salt Microspheres, and now have a worldwide exclusive contract to manufacture, market and sell the product. SODA-LO® Salt Microspheres are now being used by several well-known UK and US food manufacturers to reduce salt levels by up to 30 percent in bread, pizza bases, pastry, savoury pie fillings, cheese and baked snacks. Its reduced-sized salt crystals keep the flavour of ordinary salt with 20 to 50 percent reduction in salt content, helping maintenance of normal blood pressure.
Under licence from Eminate, Tate & Lyle now develops, manufactures, markets and sells SODA-LO® Salt Microspheres, and the agreement is structured so that we can collaborate further in the future.
