To create our portfolio of renewable ingredients we use three main processes: milling, fermentation and sugar refining. Other principal raw material processes include our patented sucralose processing of sugar.
Milling - corn (maize): The milling of corn is a wet mill process which begins by steeping the shelled corn in water. To find out more click here.
Fermentation: begins by taking partly-processed corn from the milling process and adding yeast to produce a range of fermented products from biogums to citric acid and ethanol. To find out more click here.
Sugar refining: our sugar comes from sugar-cane, a tropical grass which grows up to five metres high. The first stage of processing is carried out near where the cane is cut to prevent deterioration; the second stage is carried out in refineries such as Tate & Lyle's Thames Refinery in East London.
