Jared Collier - Production Engineer
Chemical Engineering graduate Jared Collier joined Tate & Lyle in 2006, attracted by the mix of strategic, production and leadership opportunities on offer. "As well as getting hands-on experience of process troubleshooting, I’m looking at how processes can be improved."
Currently he is working with a team of plant engineers on an energy efficiency project. "We’re asking, ‘Why pay for steam to heat up the syrup, then water to cool it down? Can we trade heat instead of adding and subtracting it?’ That’s the kind of thing we studied at college – now I get to do it for real!"
With training in areas such as management and cost-tracking under his belt, Jared is now leading training himself and mastering parts of the process. "I thought it would take five to ten years to reach this stage, but it’s only been three and a half. It’s great being in such a fast-moving environment."
About the scheme
Challenge yourself by joining our large-scale operations: at our plants we process around 2% of the US corn crop each year. Production engineers are an integral part of manufacturing, and this graduate role has been designed as a developmental management training program. Safety and quality are essential at Tate & Lyle and are emphasized in all training assignments.
If a leadership role in production management, working at a number of different sites across the US and even abroad sounds attractive, then this could be the role for you. Our graduates get the opportunity to work at one or more of our plants in Decatur, Illinois; Lafayette, Indiana; Loudon, Tennessee; and Dayton, Ohio; and sometimes at our facilities in Europe, Latin America or Asia.
As a graduate, you will:
